LOVE is in the EVOL air

Evol Intent just rekindled my love a bit for all that is bass and breaks with this! Back to the days of those epic raves. The big production stages. The overwhelming lights. The carload of friends going crazy over whatever next said dance anthem was then. And my need to just separate myself from all that for the bass that beckoned my name from the jungle tent set in the far distance!

Evol Intent is arguably one of the most successful US Drum & Bass collectives. Drum & Bass as a genre was created and dominated by the UK. It consisted of big sub basslines, and heavily sampled funk breakbeats at high bpms. Production levels increased, but the format was pretty much consistent and repetitive. It wasn't until these 3 dudes came on to the scene, with their remix of Pish Posh - Corrupt Cops that things started to shift in a new direction. Their affection for Drum & Bass was apparent, but it was their influence of things like American hardcore hip-hop, IDM/glitch artist such as Aphex Twin and Squarepusher and their dark sensibility.

This mixtape, is based on their live-laptop performance set from their fall 2009 tour, and is almost an introspective view into what goes on in their mind, mashing things like classic drum & bass anthems, to Lil' Weezy.  This download of a gem, also contains individual exports of some the tracks and linear notes from which they came.
And if your feeling their generosity, tell 'em you love 'em and donate something here

Make sure you don't sleep and catch Evol Intent live (...and that's live....as in live performance set.  Not just another DJ set!).
Next Wednesday at Republic Live

  1. By the way...Each of of these guys have their own respective involved projects within EDM and I think we've posted about them all here. AJ is also known as Treasure Fingers, Mike as Computer Club and Nick as Bro Safari and also 1/2 of the project Ludachrist
